Someone recently asked me what inspires me about design.
I said something like this:
I’m inspired by the way art and design can build community. There’s a kind of strength in creating something that resonates with a wide range of people, something that reflects shared stories and invites connection. I’m especially moved by what I’d call “inspirational empathy” and seeing how creativity can bring life, vibrancy, and meaning to places, people, and experiences
My work is vibrant, warm, fun, and a little whimsical, crafted to spark curiosity and joy. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating on a wide range of creative projects, from Map Designs, marketing & branding, to children’s art, and book design.

Melissa strives to represent these territories with care, respect and accuracy, and to reflect their cultural significance. This work is shared in the spirit of learning, reconciliation and solidarity with Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.
